POP ICONS for sale
Pop music inspires my large-format portraits of iconic pop culture figures rendered in a graphic style. I focus on the eyes to draw in the viewer. Simplifying the image while retaining recognizability challenges my artistic skills. Monochrome palettes with a single colourful background first captured my interest. I now also experiment with injecting more colour and patterns into the portraits themselves. Music provides a constant companion to my creative process, with pop songs playing as I paint. My passion for pop music began when I received a radio for my 10th birthday. Like music, I hope my art provides comfort, joy and emotional healing. During the pandemic, I painted tributes to three Dutch celebrities: poet Jules Deelder, singer Ramses Shaffy, and Eurovision winner Duncan Laurence. (After 45 years the Netherlands won the Eurovision Song Contest)

I had the fantastic opportunity to paint an extra-large portrait (180 x 180 cm) for Dynaudio's display at major music fairs. This grand-scale painting later toured with Leo Blokhuis, known as the "pop professor" for his lectures on pop music across the Netherlands. After spending a year displayed at Bang & Olufsen, this striking portrait finally found its permanent home at Wifimedia in Arnhem.
