POP ICONS for sale
I am inspired by pop music and paint large format pop icons in a graphic style. The focus is on the eyes, so they will always look at you. The art of leaving out is my challenge, to simplify and still recognize a person. I usually paint the portraits in black, white and grey with one color for the background. But nowadays I also experiment with more color and patterns in the portraits but still the black and white base. During painting I always listen to pop music. Not a day goes by without music. The love for pop music started when I got a radio for my 10th birthday. Music can be healing, comfort you, make you feel better, and make you happy. That's my goal for my paintings as well.
During Covid I painted three dutch celebs, Jules Deelder (with a QR code referring to his website as background) and Ramses Shaffy because his song "Sing, fight, cry, pray..." was declared the Covid song. After 45 years, the Netherlands was allowed to organize the Eurovision Song Contest, hence my portrait of Duncan Laurence, the winner of 2019.

A fantastic assignment to be able to paint such a super-sized portrait (180x180cm) for the Dynaudio stand for various major music fairs. Later this portrait went on tour with Leo Blokhuis. Leo is called the pop professor because he gives lectures about pop music throughout the Netherlands. This painting also spent another year at Bang & Olufsen and has now found his definitive home at Wifimedia in Arnhem.
